From Stage 2 to 639RWKW: Ben’s BMW G82 M4 Competition Evolution
Some builds happen overnight.
Others evolve over years.
Ben’s BMW G82 M4 Competition is very much the latter.
When this M4 first rolled into EuroWerke, it was one of the earliest S58-powered cars we began developing here in Sydney. Like many owners, the journey started with a simple goal: unlock the performance BMW had left on the table.
Our proven Stage 2 S58 package transformed the car, delivering sharper throttle response, increased boost pressure and the kind of performance that quickly reminds you why the S58 has become one of BMW M’s greatest engines.
But as with most enthusiasts, one modification soon became another.
Then another.
And another.
Over the following 16 months, Ben’s M4 steadily evolved from a lightly modified street car into one of Australia’s most powerful rear-wheel-drive G82 M4 Competitions.
Building the Foundation
As power levels increased, so too did the supporting hardware.
The factory engine management was unlocked through a FEMTO DME Unlock, allowing complete ECU calibration using bootmod3, while the transmission received an xHP TCU Tune to optimise shift strategy and clutch pressure for the significant increase in torque.
To support full Flex Fuel capability, the factory fuel system was upgraded with Precision Raceworks Port Injection, larger injectors and an upgraded primary fuel pump. Combined with a TUNE+ Custom Flex Fuel ECU Calibration, the S58 is now capable of safely taking advantage of full E85 fuel.
Rather than simply chasing a dyno number, every upgrade was selected to ensure the engine remained consistent, repeatable and reliable under demanding conditions.
Breathing More Efficiently
Getting air into-and out of-the S58 becomes increasingly important as power levels climb.
At the front of the engine, our WERKE Forward Facing Air Intake System provides a straighter, less restrictive intake path to the turbochargers while retaining excellent filtration and factory-like fit and finish. The forward-facing design also produces a distinctive induction sound that perfectly complements the character of the S58.
Exhaust flow is handled by WERKE Performance Downpipes feeding into a Valvetronic X-Pipe Exhaust System, reducing backpressure and allowing the turbochargers to operate far more efficiently.
To further optimise boost control and Flex Fuel operation, the setup incorporates a REV2 Controller by Protuning Freaks, providing greater flexibility for advanced calibration.
The Heart of the Build
Of course, none of this would matter without the turbochargers themselves.
A set of Pure Hybrid Turbochargers completely changes the character of the S58, delivering substantially more airflow while retaining excellent response.
The result is an engine that feels just as comfortable cruising through traffic as it does charging toward four-digit torque figures under full load.
Putting the Power Down
Making over 1,000Nm through only the rear wheels is no easy task.
To maximise traction, Ben’s M4 now sits on WERKE 826M Style Beadlock Wheels wrapped in 305/35R18 Mickey Thompson ET Street tyres, providing the grip needed to convert enormous power into forward motion.
Visually, the combination also gives the car an unmistakably purposeful stance that hints at what lies beneath.
Carbon Fibre Finishing Touches
While performance remained the priority, the exterior has evolved alongside the mechanical package.
Subtle additions including a Vorsteiner Carbon Fibre Front Grille, Vorsteiner Carbon Fibre Front Lip, WERKE M Performance Style Carbon Fibre Ducts and our WERKE OE+ Style Gloss Black Trunk Lip maintain the aggressive factory design while giving the car a distinctly individual appearance.
Nothing feels overdone.
Everything serves the overall vision.
639RWKW & 1031NM
The final result?
639RWKW & 1031Nm measured on our Mainline ProHub AWD Hub Dyno.
These aren’t figures achieved through a single glory run.
They’re backed by a calibration designed to deliver repeatable performance across the entire rev range.
The dyno graph tells the story perfectly.
Torque arrives with authority through the mid-range before carrying over 1,000Nm deep into the powerband, while power continues climbing relentlessly toward the limiter.
This isn’t a car built purely to produce an impressive peak number.
It’s brutally strong everywhere.
The kind of performance that completely transforms the driving experience, whether accelerating out of a corner or rolling into full boost on the motorway.
One of Australia’s Strongest Rear-Wheel-Drive G82 M4s
Sixteen months ago, Ben’s M4 began life as one of the first S58 development cars through the EuroWerke workshop.
Today, it stands as one of Australia’s strongest rear-wheel-drive BMW G82 M4 Competitions-a build that reflects careful planning, quality components and a philosophy of continual refinement rather than chasing shortcuts.
As development of the S58 platform continues, builds like this demonstrate just how capable BMW’s latest M engine truly is when every component works together.
