From factory the BMW G80 M3 Competition is known for dusty and noisey brakes. Most people ‘put up with it’, being under the impression that dusty and noisey brakes equals performance.
The truth is, you do not have to sacrifice performance to remedy these annoyances. A common upgrade we do here at EuroWerke is Giro 380mm 2-piece front rotors, 370mm 2-piece rear rotors and Dixcel Type M brake pads.
GiroDisc 2-piece rotors are a direct replacement for the front & rear rotors on the G80 M3, G82/83 M4, and G87 M2 without carbon ceramic brakes. Giro’s 2-piece, fully floating assemblies help shed unsprung weight and rotating mass from the front axle of the vehicle.
The rotor rings are machined from a proprietary casting made of high-carbon iron formulated to GiroDisc’s specifications. This superior metallurgy results in a rotor that holds up better, and the 72 curved vanes act as a centrifugal pump pulling air in through the hub to effectively cool the rotors under hard use. The 2-piece design means a reusable hat which can be attached to new rings, when they need to be replaced.
All major components including the hats, rotor rings, and drive pins are manufactured in-house at Giro’s facility in Bellingham, WA from domestically sourced materials. The hat is made from 6061-T6 aluminum and coated in a black anodize finish. The drive pins are made from a high-strength steel alloy and cadmium-plated for corrosion resistance. All rotors are assembled with spring clips and Belleville washers for race-ready float while also being street-friendly with no noise from loose hardware.
Dixcel Type M Brake Pads are ultra low dust brake pads, designed for street use. They have a significant reduction of brake dust without sacrificing brake performance. Whilst retaining a stable operating friction level for superior brake control. Braking power that is NOT abrupt, making for smooth and a comfortable ride during braking. They are specifically designed to minimize disc wear to help prolong the life of the brake discs.
