The 3.0 L S55B30 Twin Turbo engine in the BMW F8X M3 M4 M2C models is equipped with an indirect charge-air cooling system, meaning the cooling of the charged air is not cooled by the ambient air, as like conventional intercooler set ups. The charge air cooling is courtesy of a water to air cooling set up.

The calculated ratio between the inner and outer cooling surface generates maximum heat transfer and at the same time the best possible internal air flow. Along with aluminium cast end tanks that are CAD designed and optimised in CFD simulations.
