When it comes to modern BMW M cars, the manual rear-wheel-drive BMW G80 M3 remains the enthusiast’s choice. Combining a 6-speed manual transmission with the S58 twin-turbo platform creates one of the most engaging performance sedans on the road today - and this particular G80 has been refined in nearly every area.
Recently at EuroWerke Sydney, this striking BMW G80 M3 came in for the next stage of its evolution, combining premium hardware upgrades with a custom TUNE+ ECU calibration on our in-house Mainline ProHub dyno.
The result?
540kW & 833Nm at the hubs
Measured on our Mainline ProHub dyno, this manual G80 M3 now delivers an incredible 540kW and 833Nm - transforming the car into an extremely serious rear-wheel-drive package while still retaining the involvement and feel only a manual M car can offer.
What makes the setup particularly impressive is how usable the power remains. Compared to our previous stock-turbo manual G80 M3 build, the Van Der Lee GT3 EVO turbochargers dramatically extend the top-end power curve while retaining the strong mid-range response the S58 platform is known for. Looking at the dyno graph, torque ramps in aggressively through the mid-range before carrying hard right through to nearly 7000rpm, creating a broad and highly responsive powerband rather than a peaky delivery.
From Stock Turbos to GT3 EVO Turbos
Interestingly, we previously developed another manual G80 M3 featuring a very similar setup - including the Wagner Tuning twin plate clutch upgrade and custom TUNE+ ECU calibration - while still utilising the factory S58 turbochargers.
This latest build takes that proven combination one step further through the addition of Van Der Lee GT3 EVO turbochargers, unlocking another level of power and top-end performance while retaining the drivability and responsiveness the G8X platform is known for.
It’s a great real-world example of how capable the factory S58 turbo system already is - and what becomes possible once the airflow limitations are removed.
