Fitting a Gintani single-piece crank hub to a BMW S55 engine (found in the F80 M3, F82/F83 M4, and F87 M2 Competition) is a preventative upgrade aimed at addressing a well-known potential failure point in the engine’s design. The S55 engine uses a three-piece crank hub from the factory, which relies on friction to keep the components locked together. Under hard driving, especially when tuning or pushing power beyond stock levels, this design can allow the hub to slip.
