CUSTOMER FEATURE: ‘He’s a Maniac!’ w/ Moey and his [M4NIAC] BMW F82 M4 Individual

Like many other car stories, this one starts with a generational passion passed down from Father to Son, and in this case – a passion purely for BMW.

Moey can always remember BMW’s being a part of his family story, as his dad was… wait for it… a maniac for them! That passion from his dad, in turn, meant it was what good enough to raise his family with and was what Moey grew up around. So, for Moey all his memories from the car had that iconic Bavarian badge on the steering wheel.

When Moey was old enough to get his first car, he found himself in a… Toyota Corolla. We know, not what you were expecting. But this car wasn’t one for passion, but something to learn in, and to be his reliable transport for getting to and from his Electrical Apprenticeship. Yes, Moey was becoming a Sparky, and his plan was simple - work hard, save, then play hard. By the end of Moey’s apprenticeship he had done just that, or at least the hard work and saving part. It was time to buy a BMW and begin the ‘playing hard’ part of the plan. The search began for a BMW 4-Series, a 420i to be specific.

It didn’t take long for a white car to be found. It was just what he wanted, the right colour, M-Sport and with low kms. This was the first car Moey modified and modified it he did! Installing a set of aftermarket downpipes and tuning it himself via a BM3. Moey can remember nervously sweating when dialling in the tune himself… but in the end, it all went to plan, and it was one of the first cars in Sydney to receive a ‘Pop & Crackle’ tune. Over the next 1.5-2 years he added an aftermarket air intake system, some carbon fibre aero and introduced some yellow accents to the interior and exterior. All in all, it made for some very fond ‘first BMW’ memories and after 2 years of Crackle & Popping around Sydney it was time for an upgrade…

To what? To another 4 series of course! This time a 4 Series with the N55, a 435i. To change things up, a black car was opted for. But with experience in and around the 4 Series already, it didn’t take long for the modifications to start. This time Moey wanted to go further, starting with downpipes and a full Valvetronic exhaust system. He then installed an aftermarket market Air Intake System with a diverter valve - for those amazingly long flutters. Exterior wise saw a complete aero kit installed, with a custom yellow decal strip. Sequential taillights, ambient lighting, upgraded DRL’s - the list goes on. This time the Pop & Crackle tune wasn’t going to do and a ‘Flame Tune’ was added, making it worthy for a number plate which he still owns [M4NIAC]. Another 2 years passes, popping flames around Sydney was becoming dull and it was time for another upgrade.

Normally when someone is searching for a new car, they have a few options in mind. This wasn’t the case for Moey. He knew exactly what he wanted and what he wanted was a F82 M4. He began to look locally, right here in Sydney, but was struggling to find an example in the condition and specification he wanted. After a few months of discouraging outcomes, he was about ready to give up. Little did he know a boy’s trip to Melbourne was about to change everything. When waiting at the airport, Moey had a thought - ‘why not check out what cars are available down south?’ and a few clicks on the Carsales ap later and he had Melbourne’s finest M4’s all lined up, with a very special Speed Yellow car drawing him in. He made the call to then sellers, Essendon BMW and organised to view it the following morning.

On arrival, the car was above and beyond what he expected, a special-order vehicle, with only 35,000kms and a personal car to a BMW executive at the dealership - but being such an incredible example… there was no negotiation in this deal. This didn’t discourage Moey because he had just found ‘the one’, and such, the car was bought on the spot.

Since then, the car has gone through a few stages of builds, and at its current spec is one of the most powerful S55’s in Australia.

Today, Moey and his M4 have become one of the most well know M4’s in Australia. Not a week goes by where you won’t see [M4NIAC] at a meet or beating some of Sydney’s fastest cars Rolling Racing. Its rarity, power and presence has made many fall in love with the Speed Yellow beast. Moving forward Moey wants to continue racing, Roll Racing for fun and some Drag Racing to really see what it is made of.

Regarding the build, the next big modification is already on the horizon… but for now; it’s time to enjoy.
