Recently, a rare 6-speed manual BMW G80 M3 Competition returned to our workshop for a major upgrade, allowing it to finally deliver the performance it had been holding back.

The Challenge of the Stock Clutch

While the manual gearbox makes this M3 special, it also comes with a limitation: the factory clutch. With the owner’s existing upgrades and ECU tune, the stock clutch simply couldn’t cope with the torque, slipping under heavy load and limiting the gains we could safely extract. To take things to the next level without compromising reliability, a stronger solution was needed.

Enter the Wagner Tuning Twin Plate Clutch

We equipped this M3 with a Wagner Tuning Twin Plate Clutch - a solution designed to handle up to 1100Nm of torque while retaining factory-like drivability. The beauty of this kit is in the details: no increase to pedal pressure, a stock-like engagement feel, and a tangential spring-mounted intermediate disc that keeps noise down and comfort up. Built with balanced components, enhanced thermal relief, and reduced wear surfaces, it’s 100% daily drive-able yet strong enough for serious track work. Paired with a solid single-mass flywheel, the system delivers durability and precision, with only a slight increase in drivetrain noise - a small trade-off for the performance it unlocks.

Existing Modifications

This G80 wasn’t stock by any means. Before the clutch upgrade, it had already been fitted with:

• O-SPEC Downpipes + 3.5” Midpipe
• O-SPEC Exhaust Valve Controllers
• NGK Spark Plugs

Dyno Results - Power Unlocked

With the new clutch in place, we retuned the car to match its hardware. The results were immediate:

• Stock clutch tune: Limited figures to protect from slip

• With Wagner Twin Plate Clutch: 461rwkW & 839Nm

• Gains: +35rwkW & +95Nm

• Note: Green Line Upgraded Clutch v Blue Line Stock Clutch
